Timata’s Reading Learning Story
Term 3 2019

“How do we  make meaning from our library book?”







Vendors beckoned to Kaiina as passed, but she timidly avoided their eyes. She’d never
bartered before and was worried they’d take advantage of her the moment she showed
interest in what they were selling.
“Kaiina!”
She looked up, startled, and was relieved.


I chose this book because I like narratives type of books because they have
interesting stories to read and because they make me think of making a book similar to
the book I've read. 


When I choose a library book I think of reading the next series of the book I read
because I want to find the true meaning of the story and how they complete their mission
for the finale of the book. 


I like reading books that have a story that gives me a picture in my head because when
I read the book I think of it in my own way.

             My book is called Spirit Animals


          It is a narrative type of book


Its purpose is to give an interesting story about two children that get chosen to go on a
mission and their ability to summon spirit animals to help them, plus they make a lot of
friends along with the way that help them.


I located information so I found out that the book has a big purpose in the book itself
for the reader to realize.


I inferred so I worked out that the purpose has a big part in the story because of the two
have to take care of and risk things for each other


I evaluated so I think that this book gives a lot of details to the book because when you
read the blurb on the back you know what you're going to expect.

Timata's Maths  Learning Story
Term 3 2019


How do we solve a tricky math problem as a group? 



Eluama’s family in Tokelau tells him to get some coconuts. He climbs three different coconut trees.

He climbed 3.06m up the first tree, 3.97m up the second tree and 2.57m up the third tree. 

His friend climbed 3 different trees. The first one he climbed was 2.97m, the second one he climbed was 3.08m and the third one he climbed was 4.32m. 

Which of them did the most climbing that day? 


Eluama:
First, we added the whole numbers 3+3+2=8m then we added the 10ths
.5+.9=1.4m then we added the 100ths .06+.07+.07=.2m after that we added
it all together to equal 9.6m.


His Friend:
We did the same by adding the wholes 2+3+4=9 then we added the 10ths
.9+.3=1.2 after that, we added the 100ths .07+.08+.02=.17 after that we
added them all to get 10.37.

Eluama’s friend climbed the most that day.

I want you to know that I am good at Making connections because of I
understand my group ideas and I agree with my group when they have
an idea I understand.

I am also good at friendly arguing because if there's an idea I don’t agree
with my friendly argue with my group to make sure they can understand that
it may be wrong.

The key competency I use well was thinking because I share my ideas to
the help of ways to solve/maybe think of a rule.

I want you to know that I need to work on managing self because I am not
taking risks in maths to help solve/ find a rule


The key competency that will help me next time is relating to others
because I need to relate to others to make my group understand and to
understand my group.

 I want you to know that I find it hard to focus on math and to listen to
others.

Timata’s Visual Arts Inquiry Learning Story
Term 3 2019


How do we communicate our ideas and opinions about an issue through
visual arts?


  
My presentation about My art inquiry

The problem I chose was Climate change and I used a slide show to use different slides
to explain my questions and ideas. I used charcoal because I want to use charcoal
techniques to show how climate change is affecting the world.

I want you to know that I was good at Finding out because I know what I need,
what I will talk about with my partner and finding more info on our issue.


I was also good at going further because I know what I need to do, how I can
extend my thinking and what other questions we could ask.


The key competency I used well was thinking because I made sure I got
on with the inquiry and to make the right choice to be in the right space.


I want you to know that I need to work on is stop messing around when it’s
learning time because if I didn’t do that we would be finishing.


The key competency that will help me next time is managing myself because
I need to manage when it is work time to get my inquiry complete.

 I want you to know that I found it hard when I should be with a supportive
partner to help me get an inquiry done.

My Moment in Time


Title THE DAY


Seconds before I got the stage I thought “I’m gonna mess it up on stage!”
\but then I also thought “you won't you have done this before”.


As I hear the drum play loud I know I can’t but walked on stage with lights
shining on me and I hear the crowd cheering I thought with fear “I hope this
will be a success”. While I performed I look through the crowd to look for my
family but then I forgot about it and had resumed.  


As the drums played again the ground felt like it was a volcano that shook and
I could hear the crowd cheering for us so then I thought “this wasn’t as bad as
I thought?”. But I was pouring with sweat and I accidentally messed up an
action then my face was red but I pulled through.


At “The Final part of the performance”, it was a little embarrassing because
I was doing the action and I did something different then but I continued with
the dance but I was thinking, “ Why did I do that?”.
