art learning story pakeha taking Maori land writing

Inquiry Term 1 2019 How do Artists use their voice to make a change through Art.

This is my picture showing my thoughts about Pakeha taking Maori land. On one side I have drawn the English people who came to New- Zealand and took our land, the other side of the picture is Maori, showing the fight for our land.

The learning I am doing historic art about New Zealand and this included Dawn raids on Pacifika people in New-Zealand.

I'm sharing this with my family because I know that you don't like land being taken. I added to this idea of Maori and Pakeha by adding the country in the middle. Land is important to Maori because it is like a part of us.

The key competencies I used were managing self by not getting distracted by others. I also got this work published and up on the wall.

My next step in Inquiry art is to learn more skills in art, like blending, shading and making my art pop!

This piece of art shows very powerful learning because this art is a part of my culture and I'm very proud of being Maori. My art represents that I feel sad that pakeha came and stole my land. I hope this art makes other people think about Maori land getting stolen is wrong The pakeha came to Aotearoa came and stole our land but they already had their own land and I think it's unfear.

Socially engaged art this term has helped me to think.

Timata book trailer

This is my Book Trailer.
The learning I am doing is when I've finished my book I can give
people that I want to persuade to read it a little detail in the book
to inspire and persuade them to try the book.

I want to share this with you because I am getting back into
reading and I want to read more in book choosing.

The key competency I used was managing self by not talking to others and not getting distracted by anyone.

My next steps are moving to somewhere where I can be stuck in my book.

Book Trailer

This is about my book called THE WILD ROBOT ESCAPES by Peter Brown.

The Wild Robot Escapes is a book that would make you go "hmmm?"
because after a few pages you start to wonder where the robots next
adventure will begin. I want to persuade so you can try out this book.
It has many themes in it. You can experience how this story goes by following their adventures, passion, feelings, sadness, happiness, love, care in this story.

You can read this book and find how and why the robot gets these
emotions.

Camp learning story

I want to show this to you my whanau about my most significant learning.
These three journeys were the most challenging activities I could try.

I had anxiety I was thinking I was not going to camp and I was a little
scared of how I thought it was.

                                   Bushwalk

The most significant learning on the bush walk was managing myself by
helping others and making sure they are okay and using a stick to pull them up.
So this could help me in the future is if someone is drowning I could use a
big stick to pull them up and check up on them like at camp.

                                   Ropes

The next most significant learning was the ropes. When it was the beam I was getting the support that made me climb. I felt like I was climbing a mountain and I was tightroping on the beam. This is participating and contributing because this could help me in the future if someone gets stuck up two beams, I can climb and tightrope along the beams down.

Maths Snapshot

Maths Learning

I want to share this with you because I think maths is my passion and I want to continue with it.

The problem was about who was right between Helen and Timata. It was a fractions problem.

Helen: 2/3 = 4/6 + 6/9
Timata: had 2/3 = 4/6
+8/6

I used my maths smarts to re-read the problem to understand it. I learned that the denominator has to be the same or then you can't add them.

The Key Competencies I used were Thinking when adding the fractions together and Managing Self by not getting distracted by other people.

My next steps are to always stay focused on my learning by sitting in the right place and remembering to wear my glasses.
